Geode "Cocktails on the Rocks" Party

May “agate” you a drink? I recently threw a birthday party for my dear friend Jenny, who is truly a "gem",” but this geode cocktail party theme is perfect for an array of occasions! To style this party, I combined my elegant Geode Party decorations with gold geometrics and raw crystal accents. This "Cocktails on the Rocks" sign was placed on the mantle in the living room near the gift and food table. These 8 x 10 and 5 x 7 frames from Umbra displayed our printable party signs beautifully!

Additional party decor included a "Cheers" banner, which I hung from a gold hula hoop on the wall by the dining table. The hula hoop was purchased from Dollar Tree, which I spray painted gold. To hang the banner, I tied a sturdy cotton chord to the hula hoop and attached the individual banner flags with clothespins. Finally, our florist Jenny Perine used floral wire to attach the eucalyptus to the top half of the hoop.

Jenny did a beautiful job with the florals, which we kept simple and lush. She placed Big Blue Sea Holly, White Ranunculus and Baby's Breath in small cobalt glass bottle vases throughout the party against a backdrop of Eucalyptus.

For the place settings I used silverware from Cambridge, plates from Canvas Home and gold napkins from Benson Mills, all of which were placed onto wire placemats from DII. The use of gold geometrics was inspired by the facets of gemstones and created a nice contrast against the organic lines of the geode graphics. The Cocktail glasses were a HomeGoods find and the exquisite cocktail picks were from ROOS.

Printed menu cards listed the delicious small bites and desserts featured at the party along with our signature cocktail recipe. Sliced agate name cards sat on geometric place card holders from Koyal Wholesale at each place setting helping guests locate their seat. To write each guest’s name, I used a gold oil-based pen, which worked beautifully. Each guests was invited to take their name card home as an additional party favor.

Champagne with rock candy wands next to a "May Agate You A Drink?" sign greeted the guests as they arrived, introducing the theme of the party!

Since it was a cocktail party after all, we created a signature gin-based cocktail for the celebration called "Gem on the Rocks.” I’ve included a link to the recipe below incase you’d like to mix one up for yourself!

Small bites are perfect for any cocktail party! Our menu included a variety of Jenny's favorite dishes such as oysters with rainbow caviar and gazpacho martinis provided by Critic's Choice Catering along a grazing tray filled with a variety of cheese, charcuterie, fruit and crudités that I put together.

In place of a birthday cake we served Earl Grey chocolate cupcakes with geode toppers, along with black and blueberry cheesecake tarts created by the gifted Roseann of Scullery Baked. Their handcrafted treats are almost too beautiful to eat!

I’m a big fan of practical party favors and bottle stoppers are a wonderful option, especially for a cocktail party! These beautiful gem bottle stoppers were an Amazon find but they weren’t the right color and needed a bit of embellishment. Learn I transformed them with my DIY tutorial here. Our party theme was carried throughout all of the little details including the birthday gifts, which were wrapped using my Gift Wrap Kits in the style "Geode to Joy." Other than watching the birthday girl open her gifts, we just enjoyed good food, drinks and conversation.

We were so lucky to have the talented Onye there to photograph Jenny's special day as everything came together beautifully and we all had a fabulous time!
